What Types of Crushers Are Used In Quarries?

author:dahua2 time:2026-07-28

In mining operations, stone crushing is the core process of mechanically breaking down large chunks of raw ore into finished aggregates of different specifications. The produced stone can be directly used in road construction, concrete mixing, building material production, and many other fields.

Currently, commonly used stone crushing equipment in mining mainly covers a complete system encompassing coarse, medium, and fine crushing processes. Different models are adapted to different working conditions and material characteristics, providing core support for high and stable mine production. Below are five commonly used stone crushers in quarries.

Types of Crushers Are Used In Quarries

1. Jaw Crusher: As the most widely used coarse crushing equipment in mining, it relies on the periodic compression of the stationary jaw plate by the moving jaw plate to crush materials. The deep cavity crushing design significantly increases the feeding capacity, allowing direct processing of large chunks of raw ore with a diameter of several hundred millimeters. It is suitable for various materials such as limestone, granite, and iron ore, offering a large crushing ratio and stable operation. It is the first core equipment in almost all stationary sand and gravel production lines. Some optimized models also use wedge blocks to adjust the discharge port, making particle size adjustment more convenient.

2. Impact Crusher: Primarily used in medium-scale crushing, it crushes materials through the high-speed impact of hammer plates. The finished aggregate has a cubic particle shape with extremely low needle-like and flaky content, making it a core piece of equipment for producing high-grade highway and high-speed railway surface materials. This type of equipment has a wide adjustable range of output particle size, allowing for flexible switching between different finished product specifications. It is also suitable for construction waste recycling and is widely used in open-pit mines around cities.

3. Cone Crusher: Developed for medium and fine crushing of high-hardness ores, it employs the principle of layered crushing. Material is crushed through the compression between the mantle and the crushing wall. It comes in several subcategories, including spring cone crushers, single-cylinder hydraulic cone crushers, and multi-cylinder hydraulic cone crushers. It boasts outstanding wear resistance and low energy consumption per unit output, making it particularly suitable for processing ultra-hard materials such as basalt and river pebbles. It is the preferred model for large-scale mines to improve finished product quality and reduce long-term operating costs.

4. Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher: Also known as a sand making machine, it is the core equipment in the production of manufactured sand and stone shaping in mining operations. Utilizing a dual-mode crushing principle of "stone-on-stone" and "stone-on-iron," materials are crushed by impact within a high-speed rotating impeller. The output particle size can be flexibly adjusted to 0-5mm, producing rounded, well-graded sand that fully meets national standards for construction sand. Some high-end models use high-manganese steel for key components, with a maximum processing capacity of up to 1100t/h. It is suitable for various hard and brittle materials such as granite, pebbles, and metal ores, and is currently the mainstream choice to replace traditional grinding equipment and improve sand and gravel quality.

5. Mobile Crushing Station: A new type of mining equipment that has rapidly gained popularity in recent years. Divided into tracked and wheeled types, it integrates feeding, crushing, and screening modules onto a mobile chassis. Without the need for a fixed foundation, it can be directly driven into the work site, achieving "on-demand production." These types of equipment are suitable for scattered small-scale mining sites, temporary infrastructure projects, and on-site resource utilization of construction waste, significantly reducing material handling costs. Some dual-power models can even operate stably in outdoor sites without external power.
